Ripple Effect Coffee Bar (Sat 5^th Nov) in Tobermore. Pray for our young people as they attend that it will encourage them to be part of a large group.

Youth Club. Continue to pray for more leaders who have a heart for this work and to commit to help on a regular basis. Pray for meeting at 9pm on 10^th Nov.

Keith providing cover. Pray for Keith as he covers for Jonathan while he is away on holidays next week.

Communion Services in November. Pray that God’s presence will be real to us all as we gather for Pre Communion, Communion and Thanksgiving.

Streetreach request prayer for this weekend as “the Opera normally do a Halloween Special' and this is the night when you see some very scary people and a very evil atmosphere is around you. Please pray for God's awesome protection and that it will be a night when God will be so glorified.” 

CEF Give thanks for the opportunities that they have in this area in schools and with Good News Clubs. Pray for a door to open up for a Senior Youth Challenge in this area. Pray that God would bless all the opportunities they have and that many children will come to trust in Christ for Salvation.

Derek and Jane French. PCI Spain Pray for them as they attend a GBU conference near Valencia. Pray that it will be a time of learning, refreshment and encouragement for all.

DGMH, Malawi. Lyn Dowds and Una Brownlie continue their work at the David Gordon Memorial Hospital (DGMH) in Livingstonia.  William Mwenifumba, the older clinical officer at the hospital took ill over the weekend and has been transferred to intensive care.     Pray for Mr Mwenifumba, for a full and quick recovery from illness.   Remember his family at this difficult time and also his colleagues at DGMH.

Harvest Thanks Give thanks for all who were involved in the “Harvest Thanksgiving” and for this special time of Blessing. Giver thank too for the good attendance and fellowship during refreshments after the evening worship. Above all, give thanks to Almighty God for His bountiful Blessings throughout the past year and His never-ending love for us His children.

Sunday School Pray for the children as they begin to learn memory verses between now and Christmas. Pray that parents will give them the support that they will need to do this and that as God’s word is planted in their hearts it will bear fruit in their lives.

Church Library Give thanks for the abundance of Christian literature that we have in this country. Pray that many more folk will make use of the library and be encouraged to read and grow in their faith in Christ. Pray too for the opportunity to build relationships with parents through the cup of tea on the stage during Sunday School.

Sunday Evening Service (16^th) Pray for Paddy and Jill Crozier (CEF) as they come and share of the work with children. Pray that many might attend this special service and be an encouragement to them.

English Classes Praise God for the increase in numbers this year along to the morning group. Pray that relationships will build easily and that as the Bible is studied that God’s spirit might be at work in people’s lives.

PW Pray for Robin and Helen Quinn (PCI, Malawi) as they share of their work Ekwendeni on Tuesday 18^th.

Parent and Toddlers. Give thanks for the many new folk who have been coming regularly this year. Pray for a Lithuanian lady who has been enquiring about Sunday services that she may come along. Pray for those who take CDs of the Sunday morning services that they might listen to them and be spoken to through them.

Pray for Others Pray for those who are ill, receiving treatment or recovering from surgery and those who have lost loved ones and finding difficulty accepting their loss. Pray that God’s uplifting Spirit may support and draw them close to Himself at this their time of loss.

We pray for the protection of the family unit and those who are under financial stress due to the current economic circumstances. Pray that God may aid reconciliation where there is family discord and that His Peace may reign in troubled homes. Pray for those who have recently taken and are planning to take marriage vows, that God’s Blessing may be upon them and that God will be given Honour, Glory and Praise in their homes.

Mission Prayer Points

Glen and Julianne Cousley Give thanks that they and their children (Benjamin, Joshua and Esther) have moved safely to Uganda and are settling in well to the work with MAF. Pray for the safe arrival of their personal belongings (coming by road from Tanzania). Pray too for Glenn who was unwell with bowel problems for 6-7 weeks in May/June and has been treated for jiardia.

Daniel Glassey Give thanks that he has arrived safely in Thailand. Continue to pray for him as he settles in to the work and also for the work of Wycliffe.

Faith Mission 125^th Anniversary Day of Prayer Fri 14^th Oct Give thanks for 125 years of outreach of the Faith Mission. Pray for God’s blessing on the mission work, door to door work and youth work that through it many might come to know Christ. Pray especially for the Outreach in the Gens of Antrim that as the team continue the door to door work that they might have opportunities to share the Gospel.

Celebration of Global Mission - PCI Missionary Rallies Pray for the two rallies: Ballygawley 20^th Oct and Church House 25^th Oct. Pray for all involved as they prepare for these evenings and pray that many will be encouraged to attend .

Egypt - Church standing strong despite killings of Christians (from Open Doors) Egyptian Christians report a powerful prayer time from 6pm to 6am on Monday night following the killing of at least 24 Christians by government security forces with around 250 wounded during a previously peaceful demonstration. At least 13 of those killed were intentionally run over by military vehicles. The prayer meeting was televised on Satellite TV, with thousands of believers following it and joining in prayer.

Egyptian Christians have issued a country wide call for fasting and prayer from Wednesday 12th October until Friday the 14th. Let us stand with our brothers and sisters in Egypt. Please pray:

1. The Christians would feel God’s love and peace that passes understanding.

2. The Christians will pray for God to intervene and take matters into His hands.

3. That Christians can show love forgiveness and follow the Matthew 5:44 commandment to "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you".

Streetreach Continue to pray for Gods protection on the team . Due to increase in numbers on Saturday night the Baptist folk are running weekly on a Saturday night themselves and fortnightly on a Friday night joined by a team from First Magherafelt. Pray specifically for some people who come regularly to the team and enjoy the chat but as yet have not come to know Christa as Saviour: Samuel, Colin, Francis, Jenny and Charlie. Pray for a young lad called Alex who asked for prayer for restoration a few weeks ago but is needing support. Pray for opportunities to share the Gospel with an increasing number of Hungarian, Polish and Lithuanian folk that the team are making contact with - Adrain from Streetreach writes “they love their coffee- we want to give them more than coffee”.

Prayer Updates 29th September 2011

Lord we thank you for the promise of your presence daily, and for your enduring love and forgiveness for us as we often falter and fail in our Christian walk. We pray for those within the Congregation who have not come to trust in you as saviour and redeemer may your spirit be at work in their hearts and minds. May there be a great revival within our church its people and in our land, Amen

Give thanks for 8 people who have joined the Christianity Explored course and for the openness in discussion. Pray that those who are seeking meaning in life will come to trust in the One who came to give “abundant life”. Pray for Jonathan as he leads this group.

Praise God for a large number of folk who are involved in Small group Bible Studies. Pray for God’s blessing on all as they prepare the studies at home and share together what they learned.

Pray for Friendly Hour as they meet on Tuesday that it may be a good time of friendship and fellowship. Give thanks for all who work hard to make this group happen.

Pray for the elders and committee members as they visit houses with invitations for the harvest that many would be encouraged to attend. Pray for all preparations for the harvest remembering Jonathan and Keith as they preach also:

· The Harvest Clean on Saturday am

· Melanie and those involved in choir and instruments

· Provision of gifts for decoration and the decorating of church

· Distribution of gifts and CDs to elderly.

Continue to pray for all the youth organisations within our church. Give thanks for all who lead, teach and care for these groups. Pray especially for the need for a female leader in youth club to help fortnightly that someone may have the vision for this work and be willing to make this commitment.

Give thanks for the continued support of our Sunday school and for parents that ensure their children attend weekly. Pray that those parents not involved in church life would be encouraged to attend and join in the fellowship of our church.

Give thanks for the practical support given be the congregational committee. In this time when families and churches are feeling the financial strain pray for increased faith and a willingness within our congregation to give back to God with a thankful heart and in a way that honors Him.

Pray for all who are in need of God’s help in a particular way at this time: those facing surgery, awaiting tests, convalescing, recently bereaved, having difficulty in relationships and under financial strain. Pray that they would know comfort and strength from God.

For Rev Curry as he is off on study leave this week that he might be able to focus on his studies in pastoral care and that it may be of benefit to him and our congregation. Pray for Keith as he provides cover this week.

Continue to pray for those who have left home to seek employments or University that they might make wise choices at this time of change in their lives.

Pray for calm at this time of instability within our province and for all those families affected by this violence.

Pray for the Northern Ireland Assembly as they carry out their roles remembering especially those involved in education. Pray that wise decisions will be made concerning our schools.

Mission Prayer Points

“For my house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations.” Is 57:7. Pray that God would help us to not be inward looking in our prayers but that we will have a burden, concern and renewed vision to be actively involved in worldwide intercessory prayer.

Pray for Daniel Glassey as he leaves England for Thailand on Friday 7^th October. He plans to go straight to Chiang Mai to begin his work in IT support with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Pray for him in all the last minute preparations regarding leaving his home, packing, for safe travel and settling into the work and new culture.

Pray for countries where there is famine and people are dying of hunger. Pray for agencies such as Christian Aid and Tear Fund that they will be able to reach them in time with supplies and food.

Pray for the 2^nd team from Fintona who have gone out to Galana, Kenya this week to work on the Bridge of Hope. Two crocodiles have been seen swimming in the area this week which highlights the need for this footbridge to be built as quickly as possible. Pray for safety for the team and for those who are Christians on the team to be a witness to others who have little church connection.

Contiue to pray for Lynn Dowds and Una Brownlie as they work in the DGMH in Livingstonia. This has been a difficult few weeks. Pray for the continued recovery of a ten year old girl who was raped and then had an acute reaction to necessary medical treatment she was given at the time. Pray too for a little orphan called Memory whose mother died after she was born as she was unable to get to hospital on time due to fuel shortage.

Pray for Derek and Jane French (Spain) as they give thanks for summer work “We are thankful to God for answers to prayer with regards to the IFES Summer Team and GBU National Camp.  It was encouraging to see Christian students keen to grow and serve God.”  The local GBU groups have now started up again and will be studying Christianity Explored and John’s Gospel.

1 Timothy 2:1-2
Pray for the young people as they go to Moneymore on Saturday night (17^th) for the Presbytery Fun Night. Pray for safety in activities and that it may be an encouragement to the young people to see that they are part of the wider church.
Give thanks for 2 new children starting Sunday School so far. Pray that they will settle in easily. Pray for the teachers as they get to know the children in their class that relationships will build quickly and that they will know God’s help in their preparation.
Give thanks for an encouraging start to MAD and for the strong team of young adults who are keen to help. Pray that through this group the young people will grow in their faith and service for Christ. Pray that the car wash will be well supported (Sat 17^th).
Pray for Christianity Explored as it begins on Monday that those who have expressed an interest will make the commitment to come. Give thanks for how God has used this programme to lead many people to saving faith in Christ and a deeper commitment. Pray for Jonathan as he leads this.
Pray for the first night of PW on Tuesday night (20^th) that there will be a good sense of fun and fellowship. Pray for a good numbers of ladies to come along. Pray for Jacqueline Curry and Rosemary Finlay as they lead this evening.
Pray for the Congregational Committee as they meet on Tuesday 27^th .
Pray for an increased commitment to pray together as a body of believers for each other and the work of the church. Pray that we might not be a “busy church” but a “spirit-led church”. “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.”Ps127:1
Pray for the Bible Study groups that meet next week (19^th -22^nd) that they will get off to a good start. Pray that we will be able to receive God’s word humbly as we study James and allow God to work in us to change us and renew us. Pray for all the leaders of the groups.
Pray for other children’s ministries in church GB, Crèche, junior church, J team that God might bless and guide all who lead these ministries and young people will be drawn to the Saviour.
Pray for the team out on Streetreach this Friday 16^th for safety and openness in conversations. Pray too for Baptist team who are also going out on Saturday nights and working in a much busier and tense atmosphere.
Pray for all the young people who are heading off to University this month remembering especially those who are leaving home for the first time. Pray that they will quickly make friends who will be helpful to them and that they will not be homesick. Pray too for all the Christian Unions in their outreach at the beginning of term that many first years will get involved from the start.
Pray for those who have been bereaved in recent days remembering especially the families of Mrs Martha Stewart, Mrs Betty Stewart, Mrs Matilda Stewart and Mr Robert Brown. Pray that God would bring comfort and healing.
Pray for Richard and Wendy Savage who were married 10^th Sept and Wendy Evans and Gareth Lockheart who will marry 16^th Sept. Pray that they will know God’s blessing on their marriage and his strength and wisdom in the adjustments they make.
Pray for couples who are going through difficulties in their marriage that they will seek help and have the will to keep their commitment to their spouse. Pray for children who are affected by separation and divorce. Pray for organisations such as Christian Guidelines who offer counselling.
David Gordon Memorial Hospital ,Livingstonia Pray for Johnny and Lyn Dowds and children (Suni and Cody) as they settle into their new life. Pray for Lyn in the hospital as she sees things that could be changed for the better in the hospital that she will be able to be patient. Pray for cooperation between all the staff.
Pray for Daniel Glassey as he works in Bangkok with Wycliffe Bible Translators for 6 months. Pray for his health and safety and that he will quickly make friends with his colleagues. Pray that he will have wisdom and know God’s help in the IT work he is doing.
Every Home Crusade Pray for Samuel and Carol Adams who are attending an EHC conference in USA (16^th – 23^rd Sept) together with leaders from over 60 countries. Pray for unity of vision and a sense of God’s leading as they discuss literature needs in many parts of the world. Continue to pray for this “paper ministry”.
Mission Possible Pray for Joe and Sadie Law as they travel to Columbia at the end of the month that they might have safety in travel and be an encouragement to those who work in the orphanage and have wisdom as they explore other opportunities for support.

Prayer Updates Summer 2011

Pray for those in leadership within our congregation remembering especially Rev Curry and the Kirk Session. Pray for each elder in their personal walk with God “that their love might abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that they may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that come through Jesus Christ.” (Phil 1;9-11) Over the summer as we pray for the various ministries within our church let us pray for the Kirk Session working groups (KSWG) in their role of overseeing and encouraging these ministries and for the individual elders in each group.

KS WG Outreach (A Crossett (con), H Stewart, Dr Watson, J Dawson, H Todd) When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things. Mark 6: 34

Pray for the WG as they explore ways in which we can reach out to all who are un-churched within our parish boundary and to those who claim a church connection with us but have not yet come to saving faith.

Summer Outreach week Pray for Scott Moore and the team of 24 young people from our congregation and other congregations who will be helping us to run our summer outreach week from 7th to 14th August. Pray for publicity being delivered to schools and for preparation as Keith meets with helpers from Church on 26th and with Scott next Week. Pray for children’s club in the mornings and the coffee mornings for parents. Pray for wisdom in selecting the right opportunity for outreach on the greens in the evening alongside helping with Bellaghy 5 day club and the youth coffee bar in the halls. Pray for good support from our congregation in providing for the practical needs and in gathering to pray for the outreach each evening from 8pm in the church. Above all, pray that God’s word would speak into the young people’s lives to lead them to faith.

Psalm 119 v 105. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”

Pray for the Streetreach teams as they aim to go out on the Street for five Friday nights from Friday 29^th July. Pray for safety and for openness in conversation to be able to share the gospel.

Pray that all who know Jesus as Saviour would seek to have His heart of compassion for those who do not know him and be willing to pray and serve faithfully in order that they may come to know Him.

Give thanks for those who have learnt so much through Christianity Explored and have been encouraged to renew their commitment to Christ through this course. Pray for opportunities to use this in the future within the community.

Pray for English Classes as they meet each Tuesday am and pm. Pray for friendships to build up and the opportunities to study the Bible.

Pray for the relationships made through Parent and Toddlers. Pray for leaders as over the summer they prepare a welcome leaflet to give to all parents as they come long which will give information about the group but also share what we believe and our motivation for having the group. Pray for wisdom in developing a prayer ministry for the parents.

KS WG Pastoral Care (H Todd (con), H Duncan, E Wylie, Drs Watson &Hunter)

“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.“ Acts 20:28

Pray for those who offer Pastoral Care to our congregation. Pray for good health, energy and wisdom for Rev Curry, Keith and Rev Ivor and elders as they meet with church family members at times of stress and sadness, financial hardship and disappointment. May they know God’s support as they meet with those suffering from illness at home or in hospital. We pray that God may draw the suffering close to himself and that His Spirit of peace may be their special blessing.

Pray for the Pastoral Hour on Monday evenings that folk will avail of this opportunity to come along and seek pastoral care. Pray that as a body of Christ we will be able to share each others burdens practically and prayerfully.

Pray for an increased interest in the Coffee Mornings which Start on 28^th July that people will use this as an opportunity to meet with the church family. Give thanks for all who have offered to help and pray for all the practical needs.

Pray for the CD Ministry from Sunday services. Give thanks for those who are committed to this work and pray that as people listen to the CDs they may be blessed and drawn closer to God. Pray for others to show an interest in receiving the CDs. Give thanks too for those involved in flower ministry.

Pray for elderly within our congregation . Pray for help to cope with the changes that failing health brings to their lives and pray for those who care for them. Pray that as they draw near the end of their lives they would have a sure and certain hope in Christ for eternity. Pray too for those in residential and nursing homes and their families that they may know God’s support and peace to help them settle into their new accommodation.

Pray for all who been bereaved in recent times and those who are ill, facing tests and undergoing treatments. Pray that they would know God’s strength and that He would bring healing to their lives.

KS WG Youth & Children

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”Matt 19:14

Pray for the KS WG as they consider ways in which we can draw in more of the children who are connected to church but do not attend Sunday School (50%) or other church organisations.

Pray for the work of the Sunday School and for an interest of parents of P1 children to bring them along in Septemeber. Pray for opportunities to get alongside parents who don’t come to church thro the coffee and chat and that there would be more folk who would come in for this.

Pray too for the work of Junior Church. Give thanks for those who have offered to help over the summer. Pray that God would bless them and the time spent with the children. Pray that more parents will be encouraged to stay for church and that in turn more children will get involved with Junior Church.

Give thanks for Heather and her faithful leadership in the GB. Pray for rest and refreshment for her and all the leaders over the Summer. Pray that the girls will keep safe over the summer and will be committed to return in September (especially older girls).

Pray for the Youth Club

Give thanks for the faithfulness of the young people who come along faithfully to MAD and for the relationships built. Give thanks too for the commitment of the young adults as they have helped and for the role models they are to the young folk. Pray for guidance as they plan next year’s programme that it will be a challenge and encourage. Pray that many more young people will be led to attend.

Pray for Melanie, Maureen and Lorna as they prepare for the next year of

J Team. Pray for guidance and for a good number of new children to come along as we are losing a lot of P7s this year.

Pray that as a congregation we would know God’s help to be faithful to the promise that we make at every baptism. “With God’s help, Do you promise; that by the way you live your Christian lives and order your congregational life you will encourage this child, and all others in this congregation - to be part of our congregational life, - to respond to God’s call to personal repentance and faith, and when God calls them to Himself, - to help them to grow in faith.?"

KS WG Mission (J Smyth (Convenor), W Currie, Dr Hunter, Dr Stevenson)

Pray for the KS working group as they encourage the support the work of God’s kingdom throughout this world and explore ways in which we as a congregation can give this support in a prayerful, personal, and practical way.

Pray for an increased interest and commitment to the work of the Mission Awareness Group – Give thanks for the 12 mission agencies that are supported through this group financially and pray for the Lord’s blessing on their work.

Pray for wisdom in when if ever would be the best time to send out another Mission team to Malawi as a few people have expressed an interest in this.

David Gordon Memorial Hospital, Livingstonia. Pray for staff @ DGMH and members of the Synod as they prepare for 100 years celebrations of the hospital. Give thanks for the on-going health care in the wards and the community programmes to ensure food & water security. Pray for Dr Lyn & Johnny Dowds & Cody & Suni as they leave NI for South Africa in July & then head to Malawi in August. Pray for safety as they travel & that they will quickly feel at home in Livingstonia.

Ballykajoni Orphan Care Centre Pray for Ballykajoni nursery that the children will enjoy coming every day and will be given the freedom to learn through play. Pray that diesel supplies will be plentiful & Allen will find transport to bring diesel to the generator so that the maize mill can be run regularly.

KS WG Discipleship (H Stewart(con), J Hamilton, R McKeown, M Stevenson, I Brown) “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”2 Timothy 3:16-17

Pray for the Discipleship WG as they seek to explore more ways to encourage people to grow in their faith that as a church we would produce “self initiating, reproducing, fully devoted followers”^[i]of Jesus.

Pray for Jonathan and Keith as they prepare and preach through the theme Knowing God over the Summer that they would know freedom and blessing as they preach. Pray too for ourselves as we hear God’s word that our hearts and mind would be enlightened to the greatness and majesty of our awesome God who is a “consuming fire” and that we might grow in our fear and devotion to Him.

Give thanks for all involved in Bible Study Groups . Pray for more to have a desire to study his word in the Autumn.

Pray for folk that they will grow spiritually as they make a commitment to the Discipleship Programme which will run in the Autumn.

Pray for the Prayer WG as they seek to encourage prayer within our congregation. Pray that prayer would saturate every aspect of individual and corporate church life with the whole congregation being involved in a lifestyle of drawing near to GOD.

Pray that the Holy Spirit will indwell our prayers
- anointing, inspiring and transforming us enabling us to pray in God’s will.

Pray that the fabric of our prayers will be balanced
in adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication.

Pray for the development of corporate prayer meetings:

7 Love agreements, Love the Church – Jesus did

Pray that we will be like Christ and love the church Eph (5v25) by making these 7 love agreements with the church.

“A love agreement depends solely on one heart to make it work”

1. - FAITHFULNESS.

I will be faithful to my church at all times and in all circumstances.

2. - PATIENCE.

I will not try to change things about my church that I do not like but will modify my behaviours that annoy my fellow believers.

3. - FORGIVENESS.

When I have offended others in church, I will quickly ask forgiveness. And I will forgive my church’s offenses in my heart even before being asked.

4. - SERVICE.

I will anticipate my church’s spiritual, emotional, physical, and material needs and will do everything I can to meet them.

5. - RESPECT.

I will not act or speak in a way that demeans, ridicules, or embarrasses my church.

6. - KINDNESS.

I will be kind to my church, eliminating any trace of meanness from my behaviour and speech.

7. - CELEBRATION.

I will appreciate my church’s gifts and attributes and celebrate them personally and publicly.

Give thanks to our Creator God for the many blessings we receive daily, give thanks for His never ending Love for us and the invitation freely offered that we may experience Eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Saviour and Redeemer.

Pray for the young people as they travel up to Youth Night in Church House on Saturday night that they will be blessed through the worship and the message.  Pray for Paul Bowman as he speaks.  Pray too for safety in travel.

Pray for us as a congregation as we come to worship God during the Sunday morning and Evening services.  Pray that we would seek God to know Him and seek His presence.  Pray for the Spirits anointing on Jonathan and Keith as they prepare and preach God’s word.

Pray for the Church Picnic on Sunday that the weather will be favorable and it may be a good time of friendship building and fellowship.
Continue to pray for the Sunday School teachers and children especially in their preparation for Children’s Day.  Pray that many will be interested to come along to the bookstall on 15th and both children and parents will buy books that will be helpful to them.

Pray for the Senior Sunday School Prize giving on Sunday 19th (pm) and for all who take part. Pray for Bible Class young people that they will take hold of the truths that they are being taught.  Pray for those who may plan to leave this class this year that they will have a personal faith in Christ and continue a commitment to church. Pray for Wesley Currie as he leads this group.

Give thanks for those who are involved in the Flower Ministry in church and pray for more people to be willing to be part of this ministry by providing and delivering flowers.

Give thanks for those who have volunteered to help with the Market Day coffee mornings.  Pray that folk will come along to this and be encouraged during the summer months when so many others are on holidays.

Pray for the Preparations for the Holiday Bible Club in August.  Give thanks for the team of 28 who plan to come.  As requests will be made for helpers with practical tasks such as car park duty, cooking, registration etc. pray for a willingness of heart of many.  Above all pray that this may be a time when God will work in the hearts of our young people to bring them to faith and encourage them in their walk with Him.

Pray for Jonathan and Keith as they make themselves available for Pastoral Care in the Minister’s Room on Monday evenings (6.30-7.30pm or by appointment) Pray that as people come along this will help us a church to provide the pastoral support people need.

Pray for those who have been bereaved in recent days remembering especially the families of Mrs Margaret Wilson and Mrs Ruth Britton.  Pray that God would bring comfort and healing.

Pray for others who need God’s help at this time; those who are sick, those who are facing financial difficulties and young people sitting exams.
A number of folk have expressed an interest in going to Malawi.  Pray for the Kirk  Session Mission working group as they consider this and seek God’s guidance.

Other Prayer Points
Give thanks for the events of the General Assembly week   Pray for the newly installed Moderator Dr Ivan Patterson that he may be given wisdom and energy to fulfil his year in office. May he know God’s hand leading him in every situation.
David Gordon Memorial Hospital ,Livingstonia
Una Brownlie is currently in Northern Ireland - pray she will have a good time getting to know her grandchildren and that as she returns to Livingstonia she will settle quickly back into life there.
Remember the medical staff as Penjani is currently away on a six week course on management and this leaves the hospital with few staff to cover the on call rota - remember Gibson Tendwa and Mr Mwenifumbo as they will have a lot of extra work.
Johnny and Lynn Dowds and family Cody and Suni are being commissioned for service in Malawi at DGMH in Craigavon Presbyterian Church on 19th June - pray for them as they prepare to leave Northern Ireland mid-July to go to South Africa to collect their luggage and Great Dane before travelling to Livingstonia to arrive in Mid August.
Ballykajoni Orphan Care Centre, Give thanks that the second installment of money from 1st Magherafelt for the orphans at nursery at Ballykanjoni has arrived safely - this will ensure food can be bought for the next six months.
CEDU  Pray for the Portuguese Gospel leaflets that are being posted this month will arrive at their destination safely.  These leaflets are being packaged on 9th June and are being sent to Portuguese people in various countries, often where the freedom to witness freely is restricted.  Give thanks for many who have come to faith in Christ through reading these leaflets and pray that God will use this work for his honour and glory.
Revival Movement Association.  Pray for Samuel Adams and Gary Bolton who will be travelling to Mozambique (10th – 22nd June).  Pray for their safety in travel and for good health.  Pray that this visit will be profitable as they meet with those who are distributing our literature in this country.
Pray for all those who help in our church and throughout our land who try to uphold the influence of the Christian Faith in a society that increasingly is becoming indifferent.

Next Prayer Meeting - Wed 22nd June.  Over the Summer the Prayer Meetings will be held 7th, 21st July, 4th ,18th Aug 8-9pm and  8th -11th Aug during Summer Outreach.

Licensing of Assistant Minister

Give thanks for a great evening at Garvagh at Keith Hibbert’s Licensing. Pray for Keith, Diane and the girls as Keith Starts Fulltime in First Magherafelt. Give thanks for around 50 folk from first who were there for an inspiring service, ‘short’ speeches and a great supper. (Must say the trip in the bus was good – thanks Hugh and Jackie) JAC

Pray for the Special Licencing Service for Keith Hibbert on Sunday 29^th. Pray that Keith and the family will know God’s blessing on this special day. Pray for him as he commences full-time work in our congregation from June. Pray that God will lead and direct him as he serves Him here. Pray too for his mum and family circle at this time of bereavement.

Pray for all the work of Sunday School in church especially as they begin to prepare for Children’s Day. Pray that seeds sown in the children’s hearts would bear fruit.

Pray for Congregational Committee as they meet on Tuesday 31^st May. Pray for unity in all decisions and willingness to work. Give thanks for all who serve God in this way.

Pray for the Parent and Toddlers Ladies Night Out on Friday 3^rd June. Give thanks that a good number of mums are coming along. Pray that it will be a relaxed evening and that Helen Caldwell would know God’s leading as she prepares to bring God’s word afterwards. Pray for openness of hearts. Give thanks for 2 mums from P & T who are keen to bring their children to Sunday school next year.

Pray for Streetreach taking place on Friday nights. Pray for guidance re: the summer as to whether we could put a team out from our church each Friday night. At present there is not sufficient interest to make this work.

Pray for Richard Brown as he reports on his recent outreach in Poland on Sunday June 5^th evening service. Give thanks for God’s protection on him while he was away.

Give thanks for the young people who attend MAD faithfully on Sunday nights. Pray that they would be encouraged to grow in their faith and take their stand as a Christian.

Pray for Friendly Hour Outing on Tuesday 7^th June. Pray for safety in travel.

Pray for the plans for the Church Picnic on Sunday 12^th June that it may be well attended and a special time of friendship and fellowship in the congregation.

Pray for the Pastoral Care Working Group of session as they consider the possibility of running the Market Day Coffee mornings again over the summer. Pray for volunteers and God’s leading in this.

Pray for those who are in need of God’s grace in a particular way at this time:

· Those who have been bereaved

· Those who are ill and their carers

· Those who are facing financial stress

· Those who are experiencing difficulties in their marriage and family relationships.

· Young people sitting exams at school and university.

Other Prayer Points

Pray for General Assembly as it meets 6^th – 10^th June. Pray for Rev Ivan Patterson as he takes up the office of moderator that he would know God’s help. Pray too for Dr Norman Hamilton as he settles back into life in his congregation. Pray for God’s leading in all the debates and that every decision that is made would honour Him.

Continue to pray for the practical and financial needs of Revival Movement Association. Recent shipments have been sent to Burkina Faso, India, Brazil and Kenya. Pray that God would use this literature to lead many to put their faith in Christ and grow in their knowledge of Him.

Pray for the Faith Mission Tent Mission (nightly until 5^th June) in Magherafelt. Pray for good attendance at the meetings and that God’s spirit might be at work in the lives of those who attend. Pray too for fruitful conversations during the visitation in homes.

Pray for the Christian families throughout the Arab region at the continued unrest. Those who have lost loved ones due to the terrorist bombing, those who cannot openly practice their Christian faith. We pray for Christians that the civil disorder may not be directed at them.  Pray that God will strengthen their faith and reliance on God’s grace and Spiritual comfort will be their resolve.

We pray for Christians everywhere who feel under stress from society and who have to comply with the current Equality legislation. We pray for God’s support for sensible legislation and that governments may be challenged to uphold Christian values. Pray for the efforts of The Christian Institute, Open Doors and others, who help to highlight such situations.

Thank Almighty God for the successful visit by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth to Ireland and her safe return again to London. Give thanks for all who worked to ensure the visit would be protected from serious incident.

Pray for the newly elected members of Stormont, that they may be given wisdom and courage to govern wisely and pray that they may always be mindful of their duty to uphold and support the Christian values of our society.

Meditate and pray through Isaiah 6:1-10
Give thanks an encouraging youth weekend in Church. Thank God for the enthusiasm, fellowship, and fun had by all involved. Pray that the children may have been encouraged to be prayer warriors and commit to developing regular daily devotions. Pray too that it may have been an encouragement to the young people to put on the armour of God as they face temptations in this world.
Give thanks for the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of communion last weekend. Pray for all who participated on Sunday in particular Miss Cheryl Wilson and Mr Dougie Hamilton who entered into membership of the church. Pray that God would guide and enable them and all of us to fulfill our commitment to God and our congregation.
Pray for GB leaders as they take Junior and Senior groups away on Saturday. Pray for a good day of fun and safety in all the activities.
Pray for all those involved in Childrens’ work on a Sunday. Pray for Sunday School Teachers and Junior Church leaders that they might know God’s help as they teach the children and that the children might settle and listen attentively.
Pray too for those involved in Creche.
Pray for Ray Ortland as he comes to Speak to our congregation on Sunday 22^nd. Pray that God would lead him as he prepares for the service and that God’s presence might be real among us. Pray for Ray and his wife in the many speaking engagements that they are involved in during the forthcoming week.
Pray for all who are involved in Bible Studies in the coming week that there might be a real sense of fellowship and growth. Pray for the leaders as they prepare. Pray too for a deepening hunger in our congregation to study God’s word at home and in fellowship.
Pray for Parent and Toddlers as plans are being made for the Dinner on Friday 3^rd June. Pray that God might use this as an evangelistic opportunity with the ladies and that as bookings are being taken at present a good number would plan to attend.
We pray for all members of our Congregation pray Lord if they don’t know you as Saviour and Lord that that seed will be sown along the way and develop into fruition, Lord speak to all in their daily walk with you.
Help us Lord to pray to you in meaningful words and to pray in all forms privately, in our families and at prayer meetings as was the pattern in the early church. Amen
Jesus reminded us that: "Those who exalt themselves will be humbled and those who humble themselves will be exalted." Pray for willingness and openness to learn the difficult lesson of Humility.
Pray for Rev Curry at this time that God might give him daily strength, courage and direction as He ministers and preaches. Pray for continued recovery from recent illness. Pray for God’s hand upon Lorna and the family.
Pray for Maureen Stevenson as she begins on Friday (13^th) to make her homeward journey from Livinstonia. Pray for safety in travel. Give thanks for an encouraging time spent at the hospital and Ballykajoni. Maureen’s dad took ill and has been in hospital during this past week. Pray for Maureen and the family at this anxious time. Pray too for a patient who is very ill at present time.
Pray for those taking exams in the near future. Pray for clear minds to assist in study and that they will achieve the required results from higher level exams, GCSE, AS Level and University exams. Pray for those who are completing higher education and who may be having difficulty choosing what to do or obtaining employment. May they know God’s leading and presence.
Pray for those within the Congregation facing times of anxiety and disappointment. Pray for recovery from sickness and operations. Pray too for those who are frail and for all who care for those that are sick and elderly.
Pray for those who are lonely or are missing a loved one. May God comfort them in their hour of need. Pray for those recently bereaved and in days gone by. May God put his arms around them as they mourn.

Night of Prayer

In each session we will pray for each of the working groups of Kirk Session (KS WG) and Committee (COM WG) and encourage you to continue to use this information in your own prayer-times (eg. It may be helpful to pray for 1 Session each day).

Session 1

KS WG Outreach
(A Crossett (con), H Stewart, Dr Watson, J Dawson, H Todd)

When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things. Mark 6: 34

Pray for the WG as they explore ways in which we can reach out to all who are un-churched within our parish boundary and to those who claim a church connection with us but have not yet come to saving faith.

Pray that all who know Jesus as Saviour would seek to have His heart of compassion for those who do not know him and be willing to pray and serve faithfully in order that they may come to know Him.

Pray for Summer Holiday Bible Club as preparations begin for this that more people in the congregation would seek to get involved in this and that in time we may be able to run this event ourselves. Pray that God would use this time to train up new leaders and bring children to himself.

Pray for English Classes as they meet each Tuesday am and pm. Pray for friendships to build up and the opportunities to study the Bible.

Pray for the Easter Sunrise Service that many might attend and that as we rejoice in the Risen Christ there may be some who will enter into new life with Him. Pray for all who are involved in the breakfast after wards.

Continue to pray for contacts made through Parent and Toddlers and for those who took the Easter leaflet.

Pray for the REALITY Open Air concert organised by Streetreach 8-11pm Fri 15th outside Dormans that many people will stop to listen to the Gospel being presented.

Pray that all who enter our church building would sense a love and a welcome and pray for all who are involved in practical ways to encourage this to happen eg. Catering, welcoming, producing invitations etc.

Holy week Mission Pray that it may be a time when God’s spirit would move within our congregation to bring many to the point of trusting in Christ for salvation. Pray too that it may be a time of awakening in the hearts of the Christians. “In the last days I will pour out my spirit among the people …..and everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” Acts 2: 17,21

Session 2

“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.“ Acts 20:28

Pray for Rev Curry , Rev Smith and the elders as they provide pastoral care through visitation at time of bereavement and illness. Pray that they would know God’s help to bring comfort and spiritual help at these difficult times and have wisdom each situation.

Pray for the opportunities to share God’s word and have fellowship through Friendly Hour. Pray that the friendships built up through these times may be an encouragement.

Pray for elderly within our congregation . Pray for God’s help to cope with the changes that failing health brings to their lives and pray for those who care for them. Pray that as they draw near the end of their lives they would have a sure and certain hope in Christ for eternity.

Give thanks for all who are involved in the flower ministry in church and pray that those who receive flowers will be encouraged to know that those in their church family are praying for them.

Pray for all who been bereaved in recent times that they may know God’s help and strength to face the future with the loss of their loved one.

Pray for all who are ill, are facing tests or undergoing treatment at this time that they would know God’s strength and that He would bring healing to their lives.

COM WG Finance

Give thanks for all who work so hard behind the scenes in the management of the financial affairs of our church. Pray for wisdom and guidance in each decision that is made. Pray for Albert in his role as convenor, Jack Glassey as treasurer and Jackie Hamilton as FWO Convenor.

Pray for the continuing process towards a resolution of the PMS crisis. Pray that the voting would go smoothly and progress will be made t o be able to return money to those who need it most.

Pray for the financial needs of our congregation to be met.

Holy Week Mission

Pray for the elders and committee as they continue to visit around homes with invitations for the mission. Pray for relationships that are established through this and that many may be encouraged to attend.

Pray for the CD Ministry from Sunday services and the Mission. Give thanks for those who are committed to this work and pray that as people listen to the CDs they may be blessed and drawn closer to God.

Session 3

KS WG Youth and Children (YAC)

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matt 19:14

Pray for the YAC WG as they consider ways in which we can draw in more of the children who are connected to church but do not attend Sunday School (50%) or other church organisations.

Pray that as a congregation we would know God’s help to be faithful to the promise that we make at every baptism to do all we can to “encourage the children: to be part of our congregational life - to respond to God’s call to personal repentance and faith, and when God calls them to Himself, - to help them to grow in faith”

Pray for the GB Display of Friday 15^th, for all the girls that take part that all their hard work will be rewarded and things will run smoothly. Give thanks for Heather and all the hard work that the leaders put in. Pray for rest and refreshment over the summer. Pray for Keith as Inspecting Officer.

Pray for the Youth Club as they go away on Saturday for an overnight trip. Pray for safety in all the activities and for openness in the devotion times that it may be a turning point in some young person’s lives.

Pray for the Youth Service on Sunday 17^th and for the young people as they take part. Pray that this service will be well supported and God’s name glorified.

Pray for more opportunities to get to know parents through the cup of tea.

Pray for all youth leaders of organisations and Sunday school teachers that they might walk close to God and be a godly example to the children. 

Pray for all who are involved in the special Youth Weekend (7-8^th May) that many children who were contacted through the summer will come back. Pray for enough people to help with this even and for all the planning and organisation.

COM WG Grounds

Give thanks for those who help practically in caring for the grounds on church property. Pray for continued willingness and that they would know God’s blessing as they serve Him in this way.

Holy Week Mission Pray for the Youth night on Wednesday night and for Keith as he speaks. Pray especially for the GB girls that many will come to the service and listen intently and that God’s word would speak to their heart.

Pray for Melanie, the choir and praise band and all who take part in leading praise and ministering in song over the week of mission. Pray that the music and the words of the songs might be used of God to soften hearts and draw people to himself.

Session 4

Pray for the Mission WG as they seek to encourage prayerful, personal, and practical support for the work of God’s kingdom throughout this world.

Give thanks for the work of the Mission Awareness Group and pray for an increased number of people to want to be committed to this work.

Pray that we would examine our hearts so that our giving and our support of mission would not be tokenism but out of a sincere and compassionate heart desiring to be “partners in the Gospel of Christ.”

Pray for the work of the Mission Agencies that are being supported annually through the Mission Awareness Collection.

Pray for Richard Brown as he goes with the team from Coleraine CU to Poland 19^th – 26^th April to run a camp for children. Pray for them as they run workshops, teach the children from the Bible and play with them that God might use each member of the team to be a witness for Him. Pray for safety in travel and for God’s blessing.

Pray for Maureen Stevenson as she leaves on 25^th April to spend 3 weeks working in DGMH Livinstonia (returns 18^th May). Pray for safety in travel. Pray that she will have a good working relationship with the staff and that she may be of some help to them. Pray also for Johnny and Lynn Dowds in their preparations for moving to Malawi with their family in August.

Pray all involved in setting up and operating the audio visual equipment in the church building and church halls. Pray for a good number of willing volunteers to help the working group with this increasingly important aspect of service in church.

Pray that the retiring collection for the work of Mission will be well supported.

Session 5 - KS WG Discipleship

“All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”2 Timothy 3:16-17

Pray for the Discipleship WG as they seek to explore more ways to encourage people to grow in their faith that as a church we would produce “self initiating, reproducing, fully devoted followers” of Jesus.

Pray for ourselves as we hear God’s word and study it that we would apply God’s Word to our everyday lives. Pray against complacent and satisfied hearts.

Pray that the Holy Spirit will indwell our prayers - anointing, inspiring and transforming us enabling us to pray in your will.

Pray for the working group as they seek to oversee the maintenance of the church building, halls and manse property. In particular pray for on-going assessment of the external stonework on the church building. Pray for wisdom as this work is prioritised and as funding is sought that God would move the hearts of people to give financially to this project and to the on-going ministry needs.

Holy Week Mission
Pray for Jonathan and Keith as they prepare to preach over this week of mission. Pray for strength to keep going for the week and that each day they would know God’s strength and refreshment in their own personal devotions. Pray that they would be filled with your spirit as they preach and that your spirit would be at work in the hearts of those who are listening.

Holy Week Mission Pray…

- for the elders and committee members as they give out invitations over the next few weeks for this mission that God would put it on the hearts of many to come along .

Pray for BB and GB as they prepare for their displays (BB 8^th, GB 15^th). Give thanks for the work of all the leaders and pray that the girls and boys would be willing to work well together to put on the display.

Pray for ACE on Friday night (1^st). Pray that new it would be a good night of fun and that a good number will come along and have fun and fellowship together.

Pray for the J Team Parents and Friends Evening on Saturday night that it would go well and parents who don’t have a church connection would feel welcome and at home.

Pray for the English classes and for the opportunities to teach Bible lessons with those who attend. Pray for God’s spirit to be at work.

Pray for Streetreach on Friday nights. Give thanks for a young girl who came to faith 2 weeks ago. Pray that she will grow in her faith and knowledge of Christ. Pray for the Open air concert on 15^th.

Continue to pray for the work of Parent and Toddlers. Pray for a lady who came last week who had lots of questions about Christianity and was willing to take a bible and reading notes home. Pray that God’s spirit would reveal the truth in her heart.

Pray for the new committee as they settle into their roles that they might know God’s blessing as they serve him in this way. Pray especially for the conveners of the working groups as they lead the groups. Give thanks for the recent progress in the PMS situation and for all who have worked tirelessly to bring this about. Pray the all the final elements for the resolution will fall into place and those who need the money will get it soon.

Pray for those who at this time suffer from illness at home or in hospital. We pray that God may draw them close to himself and that His Spirit of peace may be their special blessing. We pray for those on treatment for illness and those recovering from surgery, that recovery may be blessed by God. Pray for Rev Curry and those who minister in their time of need.

Pray for families affected by stress and/or the concern of unemployment, marriage break-ups and sickness that these families may know God’s nearness and Spiritual calmness at this time in their lives. Pray for guidance for the future. Pray for the children where parents cannot resolve differences that God may bless and support where confusion exists. Pray for those who “minister” and try to bring a balance into their situation.

Pray for the growing church in China and for the production this year of the Bible in their own language through the Amity Press in Nanjing. Pray that many people / churches would help buy a bale of paper in order for this to proceed. Continue to pray for the work of Open Doors as open doors as they continue to support the persecuted church throughout the world.
Revival movement Association Give thanks for a 33% increase in production in Gospel literature in the past year including gospels, scripture tracts and children’s Bible lessons. Pray for the safe shipping of this literature to 120 countries and that as God’s word is read it may lead people to Christ. Pray for the huge financial resources that are needed to meet the costs of printing, shipping and paper.

Mission Possible Continue to pray for Joe Law and all the Mission Possible staff who reun the second-hand shops in Strabane and Portglenone. Pray for the 50-60 children who live in the orphanage in Colombia which this charity supports. Pray that they would be encourage to know that God loves them through the care they receive and that they will come to know Him better through their daily devotions.

Pray for the Christian families through out Arab countries (especially Libya) at this time of unrest. Those who have lost loved ones due to acts of terrorism, those who cannot openly practice their Christian faith. We pray that the civil disorder may not be directed at them. Pray that God will strengthen their faith and reliance on God’s grace and Spiritual comfort will be their resolve. Pray that God may have his hand controlling the outcome and that the Christian faith may be given greater freedom to openly worship God. BBC Programme “The Bible’s Buried Secrets”

Pray for those who are unaware that there is nothing new in this programme and may find it a discouragement in their faith. There are adequate answers to all that is raised (see below).
Pray that as people turn to the Bible and examine it with an open mind and open heart they will discover both the truth and the one who is the way the truth and the life.
Pray for the Presenter Dr Francesca Stavrakopoulou who is an Atheistic Biblical Scholar.

I found this section interesting
Commenting on the claim “A close reading of the Bible shows that people found it hard to stick with monotheism.”
The response is
- Hmmm. I think I learned that in Sunday school; perhaps I was just well taught! The programme repeatedly juxtaposes evidence from a plain reading of the Bible, with a highly sceptical reading which distrusts the text altogether. The most striking example comes at around half-way through the programme. FS comments:
“If you examine the Biblical texts, you find evidence that many Gods were worshipped here in Jerusalem.”
She then goes on to cite Ps 82.1 and Ex 15.11 and concludes
“In other words, the religions of the Israelites was polytheistic, just like the Canaanites.”
Of course, the only problem with this conclusion is that there is no actual mention of worship of the other ‘gods’ in the assembly here.
And in relation to the Wife of God - “The odd archaeological find showing "God's wife" only proves that some of the Israelites worshipped a female deity. It hardly proves that this was the belief of the entire nation, nor even a significant percentage.”

Will Cookson argues that contrary to the presented view that
“Monotheism brought a terrible consequence …. Monotheism disempowered women. The evidence that I have presented rocks the foundations of monotheism and for some that may have a severe impact but the loss of God’s wife had an even greater impact on history of loss and that’s the painful truth of this story”
I am afraid that this is simply not true. Monotheism does not see God as male. Monotheism says that words cannot describe God – “I am that I am” and all that. Monotheism says that God is beyond our anthropomorphic view. It is also historical rubbish. Women were not valued and cherished in the pagan polytheistic societies.  Women in Ancient Greece and Rome or Babylon were not especially well treated – certainly the polytheistic view didn’t give them rights that Dr Stavrakopoulou thinks that the bible took away from them.

Pray for George and Joanne Duncan as they bring Sarah for baptism on Sunday (20^th) and also for William and Elizabeth who brought little Jamie Savage for thanksgiving last Sunday. Pray that God would bless these children and that they would in time come to personal faith in Christ. Pray for the parents as they seek to keep the promises made.

Pray for the Youth work within the congregation. Numbers at Youth Club and MAD are both small but give thanks for the enthusiastic and faithful few. Pray for young people who are facing temptation to go along with the crowd and get involved in a life of sin. Pray that they would see the dangers ahead and trust in Christ as their Shepherd and friend.

Pray for expectant mothers within our congregation that they would know God’s peace at this time and for the safe delivery of their babies.

Other Prayer Points

Open Doors Continue to pray for the work of Open Doors remembering especially the 2000 Christians in Orissa who are still living in refugee camps after being attacked by Hindu fundamentalists over 2 years ago. Pray that the Indian government will stop ignoring their plight and take action on their behalf. Pray for their encouragement in the faith that they will remain faithful to Christ.

DGMH Livingstonia, Malawi Pray for Lynn and Johnny Dowds have been formally accepted by PCI for missionary service and are preparing to leave for Livingstonia in the Summer. Johnny and Lynn will be going along with their two daughters. Lynn will work as a doctor at hospital and Johnny will home school the girls.

Derek and Jane French, Spain. Pray for Derek and Jane as they return to Spain on22nd after a short Home Assignment. Pray for the week of mission that is being planned in two universities in the north of Spain beginning on 21^st March. Pray for the student GBU members will be putting up posters and giving out invitations to the various evangelistic talks and exhibits they are planning. Pray for an interest in this mission, for openness in conversations and for students to come to Christ.

Lybia Pray for the Christian families who have lost loved ones throughout Arab countries (especially Libya) at this time of unrest and cannot openly practice their Christian faith. Pray that the civil disorder may not be directed at them.  Pray that God will strengthen their faith and reliance on Him and that God would bring about good in this situation that there may be a greater freedom to openly worship God.

Christian Institute Pray that they may be successful in their endeavour to challenge legislation that “discriminates” against the Christian faith. Pray for Christians who are finding the new equality law restricts them from practicing what they believe.

Glenn and Julieann Cousley (MAF) are making plans to move to Uganda where Glen will take on the roles of Dangerous Goods Instructor, Health and Safety trainer and Security officer. Give thanks for God’s leading in this and pray for them as they pack up in Tanzania and make decisions re: timing, schooling etc.

Prayer Updates 3rd March 2011

Spirit, please remind us to pray faithfully for people in our neighbourhoods and help us to demonstrate the love and grace of Christ to them. Guide our conversations, that we might honour You with our words and draw others to Your truth. Amen.

Pray for the special Care for the Family Evening on Sunday that many parents will come along to this and find the evening helpful. Pray for Jean Gibson as she prepares for this night that she will be led to deal with issues that are relevant with those attending.

Pray for the special meeting on the evening of Tuesday 8^th in church. Pray that those we invite will come along and find the message from Jonathan Berry from true freedom trust on “Human Sexuality and the Love of God” helpful in the midst of so much cultural confusion in this area. http://www.truefreedomtrust.co.uk/

Pray for Bible Study Groups as they meet WB 7^th. Pray that as we continue to study the book of Acts that we will have a renewed vision to see God at work in our church and His spirit moving in a mighty way. Pray too that we will grow in boldness in sharing the gospel as the early disciples.

Pray for those who are considering becoming members of the church that they will be able to make that commitment. Pray for the need for younger people to commit to full membership. The number of members in church under the age of forty is decreasing every year.

Pray for all churches who are feeling the strain financially at this time. Pray for faith to respond to God in obedience to his call to give to him our tithe.

Pray for Rev Curry that God would continue to give him strength, wisdom and leadership as he leads our congregation.  Pray too that as he opens "God’s Word" that hearts and minds will be receptive to it and allow God to work in their lives. Pray for emotion and physical strength as he seeks to support those who are ill and have recently been bereaved.

Pray for the library ministry in church. Pray that there would be an increasing desire for many to read Christian books and grow in our understanding and knowledge of God. Pray too that it might lead to opportunities to build relationships within our congregation.

Continue to pray for the Street-reach Ministry. Keith, Diane, Tom and Lorna are out on Fri 11^th. Give thanks for the recognition given recently to this group by the council due to the fact that crime rate is down on the nights the team are out. Continue to pray for the young girl who came to faith last November that she will have courage to take the step to become part of a Christian fellowship. Give thanks that she is continuing to keep in contact with Yvonne and is growing in her faith.

Pray for all church organisations, that leaders and helpers may know God’s support and congregational support, as they give freely of their time to lead and that God may use them to advance His church and Kingdom.

We pray for all those who have been bereaved recently and pray that they may experience God’s special blessing at this time of their loss and sadness. We think especially of the Meharg, Downey and Hogg families at this time of their loss of loved ones.

Pray for those who at this time suffer from illness at home or in hospital. We pray that they and they families might know Gods peace at this time of stress and that God would bring healing. Pray too for those who are undergoing treatment. Pray for wisdom for the medical staff as they care for them.

We give thanks for Open Doors / Release International in their campaign to raise the issue of religious discrimination. We pray especially for Christians in countries who cannot share their faith with their children until they are old enough to understand the dangers of unguarded speech. We pray for God’s Blessing and support for all who find themselves under such persecution.

Amidst the present unrest in Arab countries pray that what comes out of the mess would bring freedom for the many who have been oppressed for decades. Pray that the Church of Christ would grow upward and outward and may Jesus' name be honoured throughout the Arab world and beyond.

Continue to pray for the work of Christian Institute and pray for Christians who have difficulty in complying with the current Equality legislation. We pray for God’s support for sensible legislation and that governments may be challenged to uphold Christian values.

Tearfund Global Poverty Prayer Week (28^th Feb – 5^th Mar) Pray that many people will get involved in the call to prayer for those suffering from the effects of poverty all over the world. Give thanks for the work of Tear Fund in reaching out to those in need. Pray for opportunities to campaign world leaders about changing laws and policies so that the poorest people get a fair deal. Pray for the work of the Faith Mission especially locally as they seek to reach out into the Glens of Antrim area giving out a book specially written by Dick Keogh. Pray for wisdom, guidance and tact for those working in the area mainly Andrew McIlroy and Leslie Brush.

Prayer Update 17th February 2011

“Gracious and Loving Heavenly Father we give thanks for all that you are too us, your love and compassion to us is in abundance, your are a light unto our path.” Ps119^v105

Give thanks to God for the many blessings we receive daily, the greatest of these being the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour, Redeemer and friend and may Glory be to His name. Pray that those who have difficulty in committing their lives to Him may be given encouragement to take that step of faith.

We give thanks Lord to our Congregation for the continued financial support to the Mission Awareness Group. In particular for support for orphans at the nursery at Ballykajoni. Pray for the 4 women teaching at the nursery that they will help the children develop through play as they themselves understand more about child development. Also remember Penjani at Livingstonia as he leads the DGMH hospital. Pray for the World development fund that they will continue to fund treatment for AIDS in Malawi so that all those getting ARVs [395 patients @ DGMH] will continue to get this lifesaving treatment.

Continue to pray for the Seamans Christian Friends Society and all that they do within those seafaring communities but in particular in Cork and the work of Colin & Sunbwa Jenkins.
Pray :- (i) The Lord will be with them as they minister to
many from different backgrounds and nationalities.
(ii) For the Distribution of literature.
(iii) For Christians on board the ships,
sometimes only one believer and the rest Muslims.
(iv) For the sailors who were sometimes away at sea,
parted from families, for up to 1 year to 18 months.

We pray for prayerful participation in the forth coming election to a new congregational committee. We pray that God will identify those who have the desire to maintain His church property. We thank God for those of past committees and congregational financial support and pray that this will continue for the support of the new committee.

As the organisations, schools etc. resume after mid term break we just pray for all our children that they have had a revitalising break and that they return to school full of enthusiasm and that continued will to learn. We for the Principals, teachers and Leaders of organisations pray Lord that you will be with them all as they deliver the curriculum, or give of time and talents in support of the Youth within our church.

Pray for the Girls Brigade as they study for scripture exams be with the Captain, Officers and girls as they prepare also for the annual display.

We remember in particular those bereaved within our congregation in recent days, Derek Quinn and Ingrid Cowden and their family circle on the loss of their Mum, Dougie Finlay on the Death of his Father Ronnie and Dinah Meharg on the loss of her husband William, Lord we just pray at this time that you will be close too them comfort and guide them in their time of grief and sorrow. “Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted”. Pray that they may experience God’s special blessing at this time of their loss and sadness.

We think and pray for the many who are sick within the congregation, may you place your healing hand upon them, we think of those in Hospital, convalescing at home or indeed awaiting results of tests or undergoing treatment at this time. Lord be with those who care for the sick give them wisdom and strength to care for them. We pray that God may draw them close to himself and that His Spirit of peace may be their special blessing. We pray for the relief of stress for their family and that doctors and medical assistance will create the right conditions for God’s blessing of recovery.

Lord we give thanks for Rev Ivor Smith for his ministry too us on Sunday past in particular his sermon from Acts Chap 7.

Bless Keith Hibbert too Lord as he continues in service with us be with him as he continues his studies be with Diane and the children Lord support them at this challenging time.

Heavenly Father we give thanks in particular for Rev Curry, we pray that you will be with him as he continues to minister too us, give him leadership wisdom and that ability to continue to deliver your word Lord, we pray Lord that as he returns from mid term break that he has had opportunity to re-charge those batteries and has enjoyed a well earned rest with Lorna and the children.

Pray for the Kirk Session as they Meet on Tuesday 22^nd February

Pray for the Sunday School. There have been some changes in teaching arrangements with Cherith McCreedy and Cheryl Gourley having to take some time out from their teaching commitments. We thank them for their work in the Sunday School and ask you to pray for Diane Hibbert and Jacki Hamilton as they take the respective classes.

Give thanks for the opportunity the library provides each Sunday Morning and for those who have volunteered to help with this ministry.

Tearfund Bowling Tournament Tues 22^nd Thurs 24^th and Friday 25^th that all would go well and profile of Tearfund would be enhanced.

Pray for the new PW Committee and Leader Jacqueline Currie

Pray for the protection of the family unit as financial crisis continues. Pray for families affected by stress and / or the concern of unemployment, that these families may know God’s nearness and Spiritual calmness at this time in their lives and that doors of opportunity may open for them. Jean Gibson from Care for the Family coming to speak on Sunday evening 6pm march 6^th re encouraging our young families. Pray that many families would come out and enjoy the fellowship.

We give thanks for Open Doors in their campaign to raise the issue of religious discrimination. We pray especially of Christians in countries who cannot share their faith with their children until they are old enough to understand the dangers of unguarded speech. We pray for God’s Blessing and support for all who find themselves under such persecution.

Pray for the Christian families through out Islamic countries at this time of unrest. Those who have lost loved ones due to acts of terrorism, those who cannot openly practice their Christian faith. We pray that the civil disorder may not be directed at them. Pray that God will strengthen their faith and reliance on God’s grace and Spiritual comfort will be their resolve.

We pray for Christians who have difficulty in complying with the current Equality legislation. We pray for God’s support for sensible legislation and that governments may be challenged to uphold Christian values. We pray for the Christian Institute that they may be successful in their endeavour to challenge legislation that “discriminates” against the Christian faith.

Prayer Requests from the Moderator

With such an important election next week (25 Feb) in the Republic, Pray for the sovereignty and providence of God in the outcome – just as we must pray for that too in the upcoming election in Northern Ireland in May. As Presbyterians we do want to play our part - North and South - for the sense of disillusionment, and sometimes despair, amongst ordinary people is profound. Let’s pray for people to turn to the living God, and for public leaders to be open to a thoroughly Biblical world view, whether they govern from Dublin or Belfast.

Pray for all those so seriously affected by the PMS, and for all who are still working to have all the outstanding issues fully resolved – and don’t forget to uphold Stafford Carson in his pivotal role.

Pray for the church of Christ in the whole of the Middle East following on the dramatic events in Egypt. There is a great deal of civil unrest in many other countries in the area, and wisdom and courage will be much needed by our brothers and sisters there. The ongoing need to remember people and places devastated by the huge ‘natural’ disasters in Haiti and Pakistan, which we in PCI have responded to in our recent church wide appeals. Thank you again for helping us to raise over £1.25 million in total for these two disasters. Christian Aid and Tear Fund have updates on their web sites – with PowerPoint and video resources available for you to use. For example, Tear Fund have a recently updated PowerPoint on Haiti on their site, and the Christian Aid ‘Emergencies’ section of their web site has resources on both catastrophes.

Finally, for personal prayer. I have a hugely demanding March, which includes trips to Westminster, Coventry, Dun Laoghaire, Leitrim, Dublin and Monaghan, plus major public set piece talks / addresses to do in the City Hall, Belfast on 3 March; with Armagh City Council on 16 March and in Downpatrick Cathedral on 17 March. I am so aware of the need to prepare properly, and to try to honour the Lord in these very public events with a Biblical and God honouring world view. Thank you very much indeed.
