Heavenward SCOTTY SMITH 777 Jesus’ Steadfast Love SCOTTY SMITH  “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love” (John 15:9).  “To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins…” (Rev. 1:5).    Lord Jesus, help us drink in the wonder and implications of these three verbs: Loved … Loves… Freed—especially since we are the ones being addressed. Hallelujah, on this April Friday!    How is it possible that you love us just as much as the Father loves you—to the same degree, with the same delight, for the same eternity? Make this astonishing truth more real than ever to us, for it changes everything. And supersize our assurance of the freedom you have won for us: Freedom from sin’s penalty, condemnation, power and, ultimately from its very presence.    As these Gospel-truths go deeper into our hearts…  People’s opinions about us will matter less—both their judgments and their flattery.  Satan’s lies, accusations, and seductions will be easier to recognize and reject.  We’ll see others through the lens of your grace, while keeping our eye-log clearly in view.  We’ll invest in living on mission more than we obsess about retiring with enough money.  We’ll recognize your heart and hand at work in our most painful betrayals and shameful failures.  In our most challenging relationships, we’ll be more likely to give grace than get even.  Our craving for heaven will intensify—less because we want to get out of this “mess”; more because we simply want to be with you.    Jesus, no wonder you command us to “ abide in your love”—to make your love our permanent address, the air we breathe, the bread we consume, the sheets between we sleep. May it be, Lord. What a fabulous address… “ 777 Jesus’ Steadfast Love”—the grace-haven where we fellowship with you, prostrate ourselves in adoring love, process our hurts, and become more like you. Amen.” (Rom. 15:33)    Gracious Father, your Word never ceases to astonish, encourage, and nurture our hearts. All 1,200 chapters of the Bible reveal your truth, goodness, and beauty—a trustworthy testimony to your greatness and grace. Romans 15 is a glorious example. In this one chapter, you come to us as…    The God of endurance and encouragement . We need both of these Abba—for we get physically weary, emotionally depleted, relationally exhausted, and spiritually drained. There are a bunch of hungry baby Robins nesting around my house right now—each with their mouth wide open waiting, chirping, crying out to be fed. That’s us, Father. Feed and fill us with endurance and encouragement.    The God of hope . In our complex, fragile, hostile world—we need fresh, palpable, supernatural hope, Abba. Thank you for being the God of hope, not just a hope-dispenser. Our hope is a Someone, not a something, so the closer we walk with you, the more our fears will fade and our worries will wilt. It’s a sense of your nearness that makes all the difference, Abba, so turn up the rheostat of your presence. If we’re feeling a 3 on a 1-10 scale, we’d love to be somewhere between 9 and 14.    The God of peace . Father, you’ve already given us eternal peace in Jesus. Through the Gospel, you have reconciled us to yourself, and you delight in us with unwavering acceptance and intense love. Thank you! But our present need is to have more of your peace rule in more of our hearts more of the time (Col.3:15). We lift our hands and hearts to you in glad, grateful surrender. So Very Amen. Heavenward SCOTTY SMITH Owning My Cluttered Heart and Spirit SCOTTY SMITH  “ Fools show their annoyance at once but a wise person stays calm….” (Prov.12:16)    Lord Jesus, in preparation for new carpet in a bedroom—I cleaned out a closet, drawers, and armoire yesterday. It reconvinced me of this: Annoyance is not a fruit of the Spirit. It’s one thing to muse with curiosity, “Wow…Where did all this stuff come from?” But another to become a grumbly judge, jury, and executioner. Clutter happens; resentment, annoyance, and infuriation aren’t my only options.     Confession: I’m annoyed by the guy who races me when two lanes are becoming one. I get annoyed when the gas pump trickles, when waiters fish for a bigger tip, and when fish won’t bite. I’m annoyed at people who get easily annoyed, and when there’s not enough milk for a late-night cereal, by most shades of the color orange, and by spam—in a can and on my phone.    Of late I’ve been super-annoyed by politics and politicians, by cancer cells and loss of balance, by Christians who say, “It’s never been worse” and by churches that make more of the flag than your cross. O, Jesus, if only those were the only things that annoyed me.    Here’s the deal: we live between your resurrection and return, Jesus, and there isn’t one thing or one person that doesn’t show the effects of sin and death. Brokenness is everywhere and in everyone. But as for me, I want to take responsibility of my cluttered heart; for that is a way bigger issue than cluttered closets, cluttered traffic, cluttered government, churches, and culture.    My prayer? Jesus, gentle my heart with your kindness, mercy, and grace. You are the Prince of peace, not the promoter of my bad attitudes. Grant me quicker repentances. Thank you for dying for all of my sins—including my “annoy-ability.”    I love being loved by you. I have no greater hope than knowing one Day I will love like you love, and that one Day all creation will be filled with your truth, goodness, and beauty. So Very Amen. Heavenward SCOTTY SMITH Grace-Needy Friends, Join Me in This Prayer of Thanks and Hope SCOTTY SMITH  “ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ , the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2Cor.5:17). “ You have died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God” (Col.3:3).    Most sovereign and loving Heavenly Father, whether we are in Daniel’s lion’s den (Dan.6) or Jonah’s seaweed (Jon.2:5). Fearful like Gideon (Jud.6) or resentful like Asaph (Ps.73). Burned-out like Elijah (1Kgs19) or angry like Martha (Lk.10:40). Sad like David (Ps. 6) or perplexed like Habakkuk (Hab.1:1-11). Ashamed like Peter (Jn.18:25-27) or weary like Paul (2Cor.1:8-9). Doubting like John (Matt.11:3) or distressed like Hannah (1Sam.1)…     As those who belong to you, we are more “in Christ” than in big messes, dire straits, or hard stories. We are clothed in Jesus’ righteousness, rooted in your love, and standing in grace—and you always welcome us. Thank you, Abba.    Today, tomorrow, and forever —we are objects of your affection, the focus of Jesus’ prayers, and kept by the Spirit’s power. Nothing can separate us from your love, snatch us from Jesus’ hand, or keep us from heaven. Thank you, Abba.    With a roof over our head, a place in your Story, and death as “gain”—we really don’t have to stay stuck in worry-and-whine mode, or blame-and-shame for several hours a day. Let it be so, Abba.    Thank you for friends who linger long, lament deep, love well, and laugh loudly. Our future 1000% rocks—with no tears left unwiped and no relationships left unhealed. Nothing—absolutely nothing will be less than perfect and beautiful. We will see Jesus as he is and we will be made like him (1 Jn.3:1-3). Thank you, Abba. So Very Amen. Heavenward SCOTTY SMITH Get Infected with An Incurable Case of Gospel-Heartburn SCOTTY SMITH  “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all the prophets have spoken! … Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. (Lk.24:25-27)   Later they reflected, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?” (Lk.24:32)    Lord Jesus, I identify with these “ slow-hearted” friends. It was the afternoon of your resurrection; you were alive, and they didn’t realize it. I know you’re alive yet often fret and vex like you’re in your tomb, not on your throne. I’d love a fresh case of “ Gospel-Heartburn” like you gave them. Let us see more of you everywhere in the Bible; for you are the meaning and magnificence of every portion of Scripture—the emphatic “Yes!” to every promise God has made.    Open the eyes of our hearts to see you joyfully enthroned this very April 2026 Monday—ruling over earth’s kings, working in all things for our good, passionately engaged in making all things new. Jesus, because you were raised from the dead everything is going to be okay. Maybe not by the end of this week—but most definitely on the perfect Day.    That’s not pie in the sky; it’s grace on the ground, hope for today, and peace in our hearts. It’s what Gospel-Heartburn creates in the lives of those “infected” with such a glorious malady. The only reason we can honor your command, “Don’t be anxious about anything” (Phil.4:6) is because you’re not, Jesus.  You “sweat” nothing.    You aren’t nervously pacing the hallways of heaven; you are faithfully “gracing” our lives with your presence, sovereignty, and love. Jesus, one Day the entire cosmos will be filled with your glory. Until then, give us more peace than we can explain and contain as we love, serve, and trust you. Thank you and So Very Amen.
