Prayer Updates 26th April

Prayer Updates 26th April 2012

Thoughts on Prayer – Why should I pray?

Prayer Develops Our Relationship with God.
If we never speak to our spouse or never listen to anything our spouse might have to say to us, our marriage relationship will quickly deteriorate. It is the same way with God. Prayer—communicating with God—helps us grow closer and more intimately connected with God.
Zechariah 13:9  I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure, just as gold and silver are refined and purified by fire. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, 'These are my people,' and they will say, 'The LORD is our God.' "  (NLT)
John 15:7 But if you stay joined to me and my words remain in you, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted! (NLT)

Specific Prayer Points
Give thanks to God for the grace he has poured into our lives.  For His saving grace that has drawn us to trust in Him as Saviour (Eph 2:8) and for his daily sustaining grace as we face the challenges that life brings.  Praise Him that His grace is sufficient in our weaknesses and ask for faith to trust in His power.  (2 Cor 11:9)
Give thanks for the preaching of the Word during the Holy Week Mission, for those who attended and pray that many may have been drawn closer to God by the Cross of Christ.
Pray for all who are involved in the In House Youth Weekend this Saturday (P1-P7 2-4pm;  Year 8+ 4-9pm). Pray that those children who have received the invitations in the local schools will come along.  Pray for those who are organising activities and teaching that the young people will listen well and may be spoken to through God’s word.  Pray for Jonny Boyd as he speaks to the young people, Keith as he leads both services on Sunday and Johnny Lennox as he gives his testimony on Sunday pm.
Continue to pray for Streetreach, for protection for the team and for opportunities to share the gospel with those on the street on a Saturday night.  Pray for Nicola and Lorna out this Saturday night
We pray for the work of the Sunday School.  Give thanks for the parents who ensure their children attend weekly, may those parents not involved in church life be encouraged to attend and join in the fellowship of our church. Pray for the Sunday School teachers as they prepare their lessons and teach.
Pray for those who come to Parent and Toddlers.  Pray especially for a young mum who is receiving treatment for cancer and awaiting further surgery.  Pray for those who borrow the library books that they might be challenged by the message.
Pray for all who continue in Bible Studies and prayer triplets.
Give thanks for the practical support given by the congregational committee.  Pray for wisdom for the future regarding fundraising.  Pray for financial needs of the congregation in terms of property, ministry and outreach to be met. Pray that God would enable us to give out of a thankful and obedient heart to Him.
Pray for God’s blessing upon Rev Curry that he may know God’s guidance as he prepares to preach and lead in ministry.  Pray for spiritual encouragement and wisdom in each difficult pastoral situation.  (2 Cor 11:28-29)
Give thanks for the freedom to preach the gospel publicly. Pray for Ivor, Keith and Jonathan in this role. Pray God’s spirit to be at work in peoples’ lives so that there will be response to the preaching.  Pray for those within the Congregation who have not come to trust in you as Saviour and Redeemer. Pray for a great revival within our church, its people and in our land.
Pray for those who are preparing to enter full membership of the church in May that they would know God’s blessing and leading.  Pray especially for help and strength for them as they share of how God has led them to this point in the Sunday 6th pm service.
Pray for those who are going through times of difficulty.  Pray for those who are ill, undergoing tests, receiving treatment and been bereaved in recent days.  Pray that they would know God’s loving presence and strength at this time.
Pray that the attempt to redefine the Christian principle of marriage will be defeated and that Biblical Christian principles may be upheld.  Give thanks for the signs that attitudes in government may be changing towards Christian principles and that Human Rights legislation may be sensible and unbiased. Pray for those who have relationship difficulties in marriage and that God’s guidance may be their treasure.
Pray for the persecuted church that those practicing their Christian faith may be protected in countries such as Nigeria, Sudan, Somalia and Afghanistan. Pray for Christians displaced due to the conflict in Syria as between 5000 and 7000 Christian families have fled their homes due to violence and threats. Pray that aid organisations can supply relief and that they may know God’s comfort and courage during their time of persecution.
Cedu.  Pray for the safe distribution of the gospel leaflets to Angola and Ghana and that God’s spirit would speak to those who receive these leaflets.
